The Microchip USB3320C-EZK is a Hi-Speed USB 2.0 Transceiver that offers a programmable physical layer (PHY) solution. It is an excellent match for a wide variety of products and is suitable for use in several different situations. The user is given the ability to choose the frequency of the reference clock. The USB3320 has a built-in oscillator that may function with either a quartz crystal or a ceramic resonator, depending on the user’s preference. An alternative would be to have an external clock oscillator drive the crystal input. When utilizing the ALPI Input Clock mode, a further option is to use an external clock with a frequency of 60 MHz. The USB3320 is the go-to transceiver because it has several cutting-edge features that reduce the number of electrical bill of material (eBOM) parts and the amount of space they take up on the printed circuit board (PCB).
Because of its exceptional resistance to electrostatic discharge (ESD), the typical application does not require additional ESD protection devices. The inbuilt Over-Voltage Protection (OVP) circuit of the USB3320 protects against up to 30V. The USB3320 avoids the expense of incorporating a dedicated crystal reference into its design by instead relying on a reference clock provided by the Link.
In addition, the inbuilt USB switch makes it possible to use the product’s distinctive features while just utilizing a single USB port. It is possible to use the USB3320 as a Hi-Speed USB Host, Device, or On-the-Go (OTG) transceiver because it satisfies all necessary electrical criteria. The USB3320 is equipped with USB UART mode, USB Audio mode, and USB signaling capabilities, in addition to its support for USB signaling.
As a means of establishing a connection between the USB Transceiver and the Link, the USB3320 implements the UTMI+ Low Pin Interface (ULPI), a recognized industry standard. To support a USB session with only 12 pins, ULPI employs a system of status byte transfers and in-band signaling between the Link and the transceiver. The “wrapper-less” technology developed by Microchip is put to use by the USB3320 so that it can implement the ULPI interface. This technique, known as “wrapper-less,” makes it possible for the transceiver to accomplish a transmit and receive time with low latency. A low latency transceiver manufactured by Microchip makes it possible to repurpose an existing UTMI Link by connecting it to a ULPI via a UTMI bridge. Existing and tested UTMI Link IP can be repurposed by incorporating a bridge within the application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC).
Based on Microchip’s tried and tested ULPI interface, the highly integrated and fully featured high-speed USB 2.0 ULPI Transceiver, known as the USB3320C-EZK, is available now. This high-speed USB 2.0 transceiver offers a solution for configuring the physical layer (PHY) and is an excellent fit for many different products. The user is given the ability to choose the frequency of the reference clock.

The USB3340 is the optimal solution for any application that requires the board space, power, and interface pins to be kept to a minimum. This includes any scenario in which a Hi-Speed USB connection is sought.
The USB3320 is an excellent choice when used for:
