I/O port B is an 8-bit bidirectional port that contains pull-up resistors on the inside of the device (selected for each bit). The output buffers for Port B feature symmetrical driving characteristics, which means they have a strong capability to both sink and source. If the pull-up resistors are enabled, the Port B pins externally pulled low will function as inputs and source current. Even though the clock is not operating, the Port B pins will be tri-stated if a reset condition is active.
Depending on the settings of the clock selection fuse, PB6 can either serve as an input to the inverted oscillator amplifier or serve as an input to the operating circuit of the internal clock. PB7 is an input that can be utilized as an output from the inverting Oscillator amplifier. This depends on the settings of the clock selection fuse. If the AS2 bit in ASSR is set, PB7..6 will be used as the TOSC2..1 input for the Asynchronous Timer/Counter2 if the Internal Calibrated RC Oscillator is used as the source of the chip clock.
I/O port C is a 7-bit bidirectional port that contains pull-up resistors on the inside of the device (selected for each bit). The output buffers for Port C feature symmetrical driving characteristics, meaning they have a high capability as both a sink and a source. If the pull-up resistors are engaged, the Port C pins externally pushed low will operate as current sources when used as inputs. Even if the clock is not operating, a reset condition will cause the pins of Port C to transition through all three states.
PC6 is converted into an input/output pin whenever the RSTDISBL Fuse is given a programming assignment. It is important to note that the electrical characteristics of PC6 diverge from those of the other pins in Port C. If the RSTDISBL Fuse has not been configured, the PC6 port will function as the reset input. Even if the clock is not active, a reset will be triggered if the level on this pin is low for a time that is more than the minimum pulse length.
I/O port D is an 8-bit bidirectional port that contains pull-up resistors on the inside of the device (selected for each bit). The output buffers for Port D are symmetrical in their drive characteristics and have a high capability for both sinking and source operation. If the pull-up resistors are activated, the Port D pins externally pulled low will act as current sources when used as inputs. Even if the clock is not operating, a reset condition will cause the pins of Port D to transition through all three states.
Reset input. Even if the clock is not active, a reset will occur if the level on this pin is low for a longer period than the minimum pulse duration.
