These characteristics combine to make the MC33161DMR2G a versatile and dependable component for voltage monitoring in a variety of industries and applications.
The MC33161DMR2G finds its application in a multitude of industries and scenarios:
To be successful in the market for electronic equipment today, new circuits must be made to make systems more reliable while adding as little cost as possible. The circuit designer can get a long way toward achieving these goals by putting in place inexpensive circuitry that constantly checks key circuit voltages and sends a fault signal if something goes wrong. The MC34161, MC33161 models are all-purpose voltage monitors that can be used for a wide range of voltage sensing tasks.
The main goal of this series was to set up a device that can be used in as many voltage sense tasks as possible while keeping costs as low as possible. The goal of flexibility is met by using a unique Mode Select input along with standard circuit building blocks. The cost goal is met by using a standard Bipolar Analog flow to handle the device and keeping the package to eight pins. The device has two comparator channels, each with hysteresis, a pinned-out reference, a mode select input for channel programming, and two open collector outputs. The Mode Select input can be used to set up each comparison channel to either invert or not invert.
This means that a single device can identify positive and negative voltages over, under, and in a window.
Each channel’s input comparators are similar, with an upper threshold voltage of 1.27 V 2.0% and a hysteresis of 25 mV. Hysteresis is used to improve output switching by eliminating oscillations when the comparator thresholds are crossed. At their threshold, the comparators have an input bias current of 60 nA, which is equivalent to a 21.2 M resistor to ground.
This high impedance reduces external voltage divider burden for well-defined trip points. At a VCC of 2.0 V, both comparator channels are fully functioning for all positive voltage sensing applications. Additional circuitry was integrated into the inputs to avoid device latchup and to inhibit electrostatic discharges (ESD) in order to provide better device robustness for adverse industrial situations.
Pins on the 2.54 V reference have been removed to allow input comparators to sense negative voltages and the Mode Select input to be configured for window detection applications. Furthermore, the input comparators can now detect positive voltages. The reference has built-in short circuit protection and can deliver more than 2.0 mA of output current. Its current-sourcing capability is greater than 2.0 mA. When tested at room temperature, the output voltage has a certified tolerance of 2.4%. The internal reference of 1.27 V is multiplied by a factor of two to yield the reference value of 2.54 V. At a power supply voltage of 4.0 V, the 2.54 V reference is fully regulated, allowing the device to read negative voltages with confidence.
The output stage employs a positive feedback base boost circuit to improve sink saturation while keeping the device standby current low. This device can detect positive voltages at a VCC of 1.0 V by combining low output saturation characteristics with low voltage comparator operation. These properties are critical in undervoltage sensing applications where the output must remain low as VCC approaches ground.
The MC33161DMR2G provides diverse and cost-effective voltage monitoring solutions. Its unique features, wide voltage range, and dependability make it indispensable for engineers and designers.
