TPS51200DRCR Description

The TPS51200 device is a sink and source double data rate termination regulator designed for low input voltage, low cost, and low noise applications. The TPS51200 maintains a rapid transient response with only a minimum output capacitance need of 20 F. All power requirements for DDR2, DDR, DDR3, DDR3L, Low-Power DDR3, and DDR4 VTT bus termination are compatible with the TPS51200. It also offers the capacity for remote sensing.

Additionally, the TPS51200 provides an EN signal for DDR applications that can be used to discharge VTT during S3 and an open-drain PGOOD signal for output regulation monitoring. TPS51200DRCR Detailed Description

A sink and source double data rate termination regulator, the TPS51200 device was created primarily for low input voltage, low cost, and low noise systems where available space is critical. The device maintains a quick transient response despite only requiring a minimum output capacitance of 20 F. All power needs for Low Power DDR3, DDR, DDR3, DDR3L,  DDR2, and DDR4 VTT bus termination are supported by the device, along with a remote sensing function.

(VO Pin) The sink and Source Regulator is specifically created for low input voltage, low cost, and low external component count systems where space is a crucial application constraint. The TPS51200 is a sink and source tracking termination regulator. A high-performance, low-dropout (LDO) linear regulator that can source and sink current is integrated into the device. Small ceramic capacitors can support the fast load transient response thanks to the fast feedback loop that the LDO regulator uses. Connect a distant sensing terminal, VOSNS, to the positive terminal of each output capacitor as a separate trace from the high current line from VO to accomplish tight regulation with the least trace resistance.

● Reference Input (REFIN Pin)

REFOUT is produced by regulating the output voltage, VO. When REFIN is configured for conventional DDR termination applications, An external equivalent ratio voltage divider attached to the memory supply bus (VDDQ) can be adjusted. The TPS51200 device is adaptable and perfect for many different kinds of low-power LDO applications because it supports REFIN voltages ranging from 0.5 V to 1.8 V.

● Soft-Start Sequencing

Implementing the VO pin’s soft-start feature is a current clamp. The current clamp provides a linear ramp-up of the output voltage, which enables the output capacitors to be charged with a low and constant current. The clamping level is half the entire overcurrent limit (OCL) level when VO is outside the power-good window. The current clamp level changes to the whole OCL level when the VO changes during the PGOOD window. The overcurrent limit is functional in both directions, and the soft-start function is totally symmetric. In addition to working from GND to the REFOUT voltage, the soft-start function also operates from VLDOIN to the REFOUT voltage.

● Enable Control (EN Pin)

Implementing the VO pin’s soft-start feature is a current clamp. ● Powergood Function (PGOOD Pin)

The TPS51200 gadget offers an open-drain PGOOD output that turns on when the VO output is within 20% of REFOUT. After the output surpasses the power good window’s size, PGOOD de-asserts within 10 seconds. PGOOD asserts high during initial VO startup 2 ms (typ) after the VO enters the power good window. PGOOD is an open-drain output; hence, a pull-up resistor between 1 k and 100 k must be positioned between it and a reliable active supply voltage rail.

● Current Protection (VO Pin)

There is a fixed overcurrent limit (OCL) on the LDO. When the output voltage is outside the power-good window, the OCL level drops by 50%. This reduction provides non-latch protection.

● UVLO Protection (VIN Pin)

The TPS51200 monitors VIN voltage for UVLO (undervoltage lockout) safety. The VO and REFOUT regulators are turned off when the VIN voltage reaches the UVLO threshold voltage. It is a non-latch protection to shut down now.

● Thermal Shutdown

The TPS51200 monitors the temperature at the connection. The VO and REFOUT regulators turn off and are discharged by the internal discharge MOSFETs when the device junction temperature reaches the threshold value, typically 150°C. As non-latch protection, this shutdown.

● Tracking Start-up and Shutdown

When the EN pin is attached directly to the system bus and not used to turn on or off the device, the TPS51200 also allows tracking start-up and shutdown. When tracking begins, VO follows REFOUT after REFIN voltage reaches 0.39 V or higher. Using a voltage divider, REFIN tracks the rising of the VDDQ rail. The VDDQ rail’s typical soft-start time (tSS) is 3 ms, though this might change depending on the system’s setup.

The soft-start time of the VO output now depends on the soft-start time of the VDDQ rail rather than the OCL setting. 2 ms after VVO is within 20% of REFOUT, PGOOD is asserted. The VO pin voltage decreases after REFOUT during tracking shutdown until REFOUT reaches 0.37 V. The internal discharge MOSFETs activate when REFOUT drops below 0.37 V and promptly discharge REFOUT and VO to GND. When VO exceeds the REFOUT’s 20% range, PGOOD is deasserted.
